Turf seed on bare dirt

Artimuss tall fescue blend is treated with Gravity PGS, a plant growth stimulator for improved growth and development. With cool-season grasses like this, Fall is the perfect time to assess what the summer stress has done to your lawn. Turfgrass recovers during this time of year and can repair what the summer heat, drought and foot traffic have stripped away.

So, now that you've purchased Artimuss for your lawn, here are the next steps you should take to get it ready for fall.

Site Prep

First, ask yourself this question: Is this an overseed or a new seeding?

If it's an overseed, you have a few options: You can rake it in, aerate the soil, or use a seeder if you have one. This will make sure it gets spread out and into the soil.

If it's a new site, incorporate the seed in the first half inch of soil. Make sure it's spread evenly over the area. Remember, new sites will have higher seed rates than overseeding.

Next up comes watering. Your watering needs to be consistent, so apply a light watering in the morning and again in the evening. You will want to keep the seed moist but not to the point of flooding the soil. If the seed stays too saturated, it can rot and ruin your investment.

Starter Fertilizer

Heritage PPG Gravity G Slow Release fertilizer is a great starter fertilizer to boost nutrient density and availability. It comes in 50 pound bags and can be used at 4 pounds per 1,000 square feet total material.

Gravity S 10-52-10 and Gravity SL PGS is also recommended. Gravity PGS, a plant growth stimulator, will boost the initial growth. Apply Gravity S at 3 ounces per 1,000 square feet and Gravity SL PGS at 0.15 ounces per 1,000 square feet.

Watering Tips

Make sure to keep your watering consistent during the fertilizing. Once the seed has germinated, decrease the watering times a bit but not too much. The seedlings don't have enough root system to keep them alive and growing, so you'll have to pay careful attention to soil moisture.

Watering two or three days a week for at least five to 10 minutes at a time should be enough, but you may have to adjust the times if the weather is hotter than usual.

You can boost the effectiveness of the water while maybe decreasing the amount of watering with the help of Gravity L AMP and PGS. Gravity L AMP contains a high level of phosphate, which can stimulate root growth in the turf's early stages of development. Using these products every two weeks could help. Apply AMP at 3.2 ounces per 1,000 square feet and PGS at 0.15 ounces per 1,000 square feet.

Weed Issues

Weeds will likely pop up due to all the watering and fertilizing in the area. It's the nature of the game. You can pull them as they emerge and also use Tenacity. It's a pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicide with mesotrione as the active ingredient. It's an enzyme inhibitor and blocks growth processes in the weeds, killing them below and aboveground. It's okay to use on seedlings when applied as directed. Use about 5 ounces per acre or 0.11 ounces per 1,000 square feet.
