I fell in love with heritage seed by accident. I paid a lawn care company to treat my lawn and aerate and overseed 2 years ago. I don't think I was supposed to see that they used Heritage seed... they keep it a secret.
They are one of the best in my region...
I then started researching the best grass seeds. Which of course i started by looking up heritage.
Heritage Calypsow became my number one pick due to the variety of top performing tall fescue seed.
I decided to do a full renovation using Calypsow.
I used three rounds of pylex, drive xlr8, triclopyr ester, and mso to rid my lawn of dallis grass. Then I hand pulled poa triv for two months. I dethatched and then aerated.
My wife is not a fan of lawn care activities and purchases. So I had to buy a bag in the spring and then another bag in the fall to spread out the cost to make it palatable for her.
I spread the seed over my prepared lawn and then I got a call from my workplace telling me I had to leave for a business trip (unexpectedly) on the day I overseeded.
I then had 100 lb of seed down - with no sprinklers out.. and no erosion mat in place. I had the erosion mat and lawn tacks in my garage.
I had learned the year before that I have to have the erosion mat - because all of my seed washed away.
So literally got 1.5 hours of sleep due to putting out sprinklers prior to departing flight.
I got on my flight the next morning.
I got the timer set so my wife didn't have to do anything.
Got to my destination and the forecast changed.
It then rained for 5 days straight while I was away.
All the seed washed away and piled up - with the exception of the ones that dropped into the core plug aeration holes.
I hate that I lost the seed. I lost my mind over it actually.
So much hard worked... literally washed away.
I tried to believe the best . I want ahead and watered the lawn and hoped some seed remained.
Luckily some of it stayed.
I love how good it looks in the places that it stayed put.
I highly recommend this seed.
It looks and feels incredible.
I ended up talking my wife into letting me buy a third bag.
Since my window is now limited to get seed to mature before the first frost in Ohio- I purchased a used overseeder from home depot.
I was thinking that possibly I could get this seed to stay in the ground better - and then use erosion control mats.
I picked up the machine and the got a call from work.
Grrr...
Once again I was working in the dark. Long work days and then evening lawn care.
I set the setting incorrectly on the overseeder in the dark.
I ended up overseeding less than a thousand square feet with 50 lb of seed...
Many gross man tears were shed.
So many patches... so many bare areas to tackle.. but i was already out of seed... how did this happen??!!??
The one thing I get to look forward to - is that I will have a very beautiful patch in my lawn that is very thick. I already know from all the aeration plug holes that grew up so well - that this seed is going to be my forever choice.

Due to the Rain and my overseeder incompetence... I will be a customer again in the Spring.
When the circumstances are not totally screwed up - this is a beautiful - resilient- seed that created the most beautiful grass in the whole neighborhood (even though it looks like chicken pox / or vanilla bean ice cream speckling of green.
I’m not seeing any results after 4 weeks….may be user error.
Calypsow Tall Fescue Seed Blend
I'm trying to grow grass in clay under limbef oak and hickory tree cover in south central PA. Some germinated in less than 5 days. Its been about 5 weeks since overseeding Blades are dark green and thin. Couldn't ask for more at this point. Next summer will be the test.
Clearly a premium grass seed. Seeing the difference between lesser and better grass seed.
Everything has a price and this is much more expensive but would buy again.
